IDEA Design Lab, Biomimicry 3.8 Institute, D&I of TongJi University and GIGA co-organize:THE FIRST BIOMIMICRY AND DESIGN INNOVATION TRAINING IN CHINA

What is Biomimicry about?

In short: Innovation inspired by nature. Mimicking nature is an ancient practice but an emerging discipline when it comes to design and technology! Biomimetic design is “about looking to nature for inspiration for new inventions,” says Janine Benyus, the founder of the Biomimicry 3.8 Institute, “to create more sustainable designs”.

How to learn biomimetic design?

The Biomimicry 3.8 Institute, IDEA Design Lab, GIGA and TongJi University are holding the first ever Biomimicry and Design Innovation Training in Asia. The 5-day workshop, held amidst a subtropical forest and UNESCO Biosphere reserve, namely TianMu Mountain, will teach you a whole new way of viewing and valuing the genius that surrounds us. Two certified biomimicry professionals from Biomimicry 3.8 Institute USA will deliver the training course. This training will improve your ability to innovate sustainably in your field using the biomimicry philosophy and methodology. This includes hands-on experience of the way life works, a biomimicry design challenge, the essential tools of biomimicry, and the biomimicry thinking design approach. This workshop will integrate the world of life inspired innovation and its application to your background or sphere of work. It will leave you with a sense of potential and empowerment!

Who comes for this Training? (25 participants maximum)

The workshop brings scientists and designers together in one place, bridging science and creation for sustainable artifacts and systems:

•Professionals from design, science, engineering, manufacturing, materials, planning, consumer products, construction, medicine, etc.

•such as designers, sociologists, engineers, biologists, architects, chemists, anthropologists, planners, economists, researchers, ecologists, zoologists, botanists, policy-makers etc.
